South Korean authorities have arrested President Yoon Suk Yeol, who faces charges of sedition and abuse of power, after an attempt to impose martial law last month.

He had an hours-long standoff with his security staff and supporters, who saw investigators using ladders and cables to enter Yoon's residence.

To avoid arrest, President Yoon has been hiding in his fortified residence for weeks.

Los Angeles wildfires: At least 25 dead

Strong winds, forecast for the coming hours, are delaying the battle of firefighters battling the Los Angeles wildfire, which has claimed at least 25 lives.

Biden to remove Cuba from list of countries that support terrorism

President Joe Biden has notified Congress of his intention to remove Cuba's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, the White House announced. The decision is part of a deal brokered by the Catholic Church to release political prisoners in Cuba.

Senior US administration officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that "dozens" of political prisoners and others considered by the United States to be unjustly detained will be released by noon on January 20, VOA reports.

The United States will also ease some economic sanctions on Cuba, as well as cancel a 2017 memorandum issued by then-President Donald Trump that hardened the United States' stance toward Cuba.

Hours after President Biden's announcement, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said his government would gradually release 553 prisoners after talks with the Catholic Church.

Blinken presents plan for governing Gaza after war ends

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken presented the plan for managing Gaza in the post-war period on January 14, saying that the outgoing Joe Biden administration will hand over this plan to President-elect Donald Trump's team if a ceasefire agreement is reached.

Speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington, in the final days of his term as US top diplomat, Blinken said Washington envisioned a reformed Palestinian Authority that would govern Gaza, and invited international partners to help establish an interim administration for the Palestinian enclave.

Under the American plan, a security force would be formed from partner state forces and Palestinian personnel who would go through vetting processes, Blinken said during the speech.

His speech was repeatedly interrupted by protesters who accused him of supporting, as they said, Israel's genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, Israel has consistently denied the accusations of genocide.
