Cheryl Cole has broken her silence with a heartbreaking message for her ex-partner Liam Payne following the sudden news of his death.
The Girls Aloud singer and Payne were in a relationship for two years, during which they welcomed their son, Bear Grey, on March 22, 2017.
In a post published on Instagram, Cheryl expressed her pain and sadness as she tries to cope with this shocking event that has changed her life. She wrote:
“As I try to come to terms with this event that has shattered my world and process my pain at this indescribable time, I want to kindly remind you that we have lost a man. Liam was not only a pop star and a household name, but a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and father to our seven-year-old son."
She also expressed concern for their son, Bear, writing:
"He's a boy who now has to face the reality that he's not going to see his dad again."
The artist went on to say:
"What troubles me the most is that one day Bear will have access to the horrible reporting and media exploitation we've seen these past couple of days. It breaks my heart even more that I can't protect her from this in the future. Please consider what benefit some of these reports have, other than causing more pain for those left to pick up the pieces.”
In her statement, Cheryl made a heartfelt plea to the public and the media, saying:
"I'm asking everyone to respect what dignity Liam has left."
