The Court of Appeal has made the decision to sentence the deputy of the Democratic Party, Ervin Salianji, to 1 year in prison. He is accused of "false report" for the much talked about case, "Babale". In addition to the sentence, he is prohibited from running for 2 terms.
Salianji, in his speech to the media, said that he has waged a great war against drug traffickers and will continue his battle from the cell.
"As you observed in the court session, this was a falsified decision. The process was postponed to give opportunities to the one who built this process from start to finish, which is Fatmir Xhafaj. I did not fight for myself. I have not fought against drug traffickers. In the future we will have many other processes, "Mammal" processes. We will be back here", he said.
Further, he added:
"By all means (I will continue the battle). We will follow all legal steps. This is a changeable decision. I am the first political prisoner after 34 years. I will fight my battle from prison".
Salianji was found guilty by the Court of First Instance in 2019, on the charge that he staged a video where a person spoke on behalf of the brother of the former Minister of the Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj, In the video it was hinted that he was involved in illegal activity.
In this case, Ervin Salianji was accused of "false report", with the claim that the video and the accusations that he and others raised publicly were edited, with the aim of damaging Xhafaj's figure and creating a political scandal.
After the decision, DP requested an urgent meeting and then, will come out with a public statement.
