Births in our country have suffered a decline in the second 3 months of 2024. According to the latest report published by INSTAT, during the months of April, May and June, 5,269 babies were born, compared to the birth of 5,452 babies in the same period 1 year ago.
This downward trend has been followed in 10 districts of the country, except for Berat and Korça, where an increase in the number of births is observed. The city of Berat had the highest number of births (3.2% more, compared to the second 3-month period of 2023), while Gjirokastra had the lowest, with 18.6%. 70 babies were born in Gjirokastra during these months.
Even Tirana has a decrease in the number of births, where 2,013 babies were born.

At the same time, deaths have increased and statistics experts say that in this second quarter of 2024, 5,014 lives were lost, which means 1.3% more than in the second quarter of 2023.

But, in total, the figures are slightly more positive, as there are 255 more births than deaths in the April-June period.
