Are you afraid of being single?

Being single can be fun for some and a not so good thought for others. As human beings we desire to live in community, connect with others and form relationships, so it is understandable that some fear being single. How to understand if you are afraid of being alone?

What scares people away from being single?

Everyone who is afraid of not being in a stable relationship is worried and anxious about not having a stable partner, afraid that they may never be able to start a family, have children, or that will live alone forever. All these concerns affect mental health, reduce self-confidence and the decisions they make later in life.

Although the perception of singleness is changing as the number of people choosing to remain single is increasing, experts say that single people continue to be viewed more negatively than those who are in a couple.

The latter are perceived as more honest, happier, kinder and more mature. In contrast, single people are perceived as self-centered, unhappy and lonely.

But how does this kind of fear affect people's choices?

This fear causes single people to be less selective when looking for a partner and consequently settle for less. Those who fear loneliness are more willing to stay with someone they would not want as a life partner just to avoid facing their greatest fear.

These same people are the ones who find it even more difficult to recover after a breakup and could easily go back to their exes.
