Bebe Rexha said that she recently learned that she has polycystic ovary syndrome, known as PCOS.
During an interview on Gayle King's SiriusXM show, "Gayle King in the House," the 33-year-old singer opened up about her experience with PCOS — the hormonal imbalance that affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age.
"I definitely have weight and appearance issues and it's been hard for me. I just found out recently that I have PCOS and a lot of women have it. A lot of women have it and don't know it," Bebe said, noting that adding to weight is a common symptom she faces.
Polycystic ovary syndrome is caused by an imbalance of androgens. PCOS can disrupt the menstrual cycle. Acne, hair growth, weight gain and dark spots on the skin are other symptoms of the condition. PCOS can increase the risk of infertility, metabolic syndrome, sleep apnea, endometrial cancer, and depression.
PCOS can make it harder for a woman to get pregnant and increase the risk of pregnancy complications and miscarriages. Weight loss and other treatments can improve your chances of having a healthy pregnancy.
