Bobby, a dog that guards cattle in Portugal, grabbed the title of "Oldest Dog in History".
With a record of 30 years and 269 days as of February 4, Bobby has not only been declared the "oldest dog in the world" by Guinness World Records, but is also recognized by record keepers as the oldest dog ever recorded.
According to Guinness, Bob lived his entire life in the rural village of Conqueiros, in the Leiria district of Portugal, with the Costa family.
He is a Rafeiro do Alentejo , a purebred that is usually preferred to guard cattle. The lifespan of the breed is usually between 12 and 14 years.
"I was eight," Leonel Costa, now 38, told Guinness. "My father was a hunter and we always had a lot of dogs."
According to him, the reason for Bob's longevity is the quiet environment of the village.
