Embryos frozen 30 years ago come to life: Meet the twins!

The longest frozen embryos in human history came to life a few weeks ago! The twins of the couple Rachel and Philip Ridgeway, although they were conceived 30 years ago, were born at the end of October.

The couple's case broke the previous record, that of Emma Wren Gibson, born on November 25, 2017 as the result of an embryo frozen on October 14, 1992.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has no other results of an embryo older than 30 years coming to life.

"It's all a bit strange," said Philip. "I was 5 years old when God gave birth to Lydia and Timothy, and he has preserved their lives ever since. In a way, they are our big children, though they're babies."

The couple are parents to 4 other children, ages 8, 6, 3 and 2. None of them came to life through IVF or adoption.

Embryos were frozen on April 22, 1992. They were originally used for an anonymous married couple trying to become parents through the IVF technique. The donor of the embryos was a 34-year-old woman who little knew that 3 decades later 2 healthy twins would be born.
