Former President Bujar Nishani has passed away. A few days ago he left for Germany to be cured of a lung disease, which was aggravated by his infection with Covid.
Euronews Albania reports that Nishani initially received medical assistance at the "Shefqet Ndroqi" hospital and after his health deteriorated, he was sent to Germany.
Bujar Nishani was 58 years old and served as President of Albania from July 24, 2012 to July 24, 2017.
He started his professional career as a lecturer at the Skënderbej Military Academy in 1988. Prior to his election as president, Nishani held a number of government and diplomatic posts. He was Minister of Justice from 2009 to 2011 and Minister of Internal Affairs from 2011 to 2012.
He left behind his wife, Mrs. Odeta Nishani and two children, Ersi and Fiona.
