Wedding dress style trends vary, but one question seems to remain: Can you wear black to a wedding?
When it comes to weddings, black is widely regarded as an inappropriate color, just like white (which is supposed to be worn only by the bride). But times have changed.
"In many cases, black wedding dress is seen as something wrong, because black is usually associated with mourning," Elaine Swann, a wedding expert, told Brides. "But it is absolutely acceptable for a woman to wear a black dress at a wedding," she added.
"Over the years, couples have been more open to breaking the rules and choosing unconventional and modern wedding dress codes. Today, there are so many dress options to choose from, including black," she told The Knot expert Shawne Jacobs.
However both emphasize that personal style, wedding location and ceremony time are very important. "My recommendation is to avoid wearing black if it is a wedding with a lot of tropical atmosphere [for example by the sea]," says Swann.
