Omicron: What are the symptoms of the latest Covid variant?

Preliminary data about the new Omicron variant have begun to emerge and can give us a clearer understanding of their symptoms and effects.

Cold-like symptoms: Early data published in a new British study , which analyzed comments made by the UK public on an app, suggest that the symptoms of the variant can be easily confused with the common cold.

The Zoe Covid study showed no symptoms in the Covid-19 cases in London, recorded over two separate weeks in October and December. Similarities were found with the Delta variant, where the five main symptoms in the app were as follows:

- runny nose
- headache
- fatigue
- sneezing
- sore throat

Another study published Dec. 14 by South Africa's largest private health insurance administrator, Discovery Health, found that two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine appeared to provide 70% protection against hospitalization. .

How do Omicron symptoms change? According to studies to date, fatigue is one of the most common symptoms in Omicron-infected cases. Other symptoms include mild headaches, body aches and sore throats. Unlike the Delta variant, patients did not report loss of taste or smell.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said the Omicron variant is likely to spread further and pose a "very high" global risk. The health agency has also considered it a "variant of concern".

The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention predicts more people will be hospitalized or die this winter than expected. Covid is being broadcast more now because of the Omicron variant, which is why the agency also predicts more deaths and hospitalizations.
