Ben Affleck thinks he would not have given up alcohol if he had continued to be married to Jennifer Garner

"We would probably end up putting our hands on each other's throats. Maybe I would have drunk yet. "One of the reasons I started drinking was because I felt like I was stuck somewhere," he told The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM.

Affleck, who went into rehab for alcoholism in 2018, said: “I thought I could not leave because of the children, but I'm not happy, what can I do? "And what I did was drink a bottle of scotch and sleep on the couch, which turned out to be not the solution."

The actor added that he and Jennifer Garner, who were married from 2005 to 2018, tried to make the marriage work for the sake of three children: Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, 9.

"After all, we tried, we tried, we tried because we had children, but we both felt like we did not want this to be the model our children see marriage in," he said.
