Switzerland has legalized a "suicide machine" that allows users to die painlessly in less than a minute.
The coffin-shaped Sarco capsule also allows users with muscle paralysis to use it by rubbing their eyes.
The euthanasia device promises people a painless death causing hypoxia and hypocapnia. Hypoxia is a condition in which there is no supply of oxygen to the tissues, while hypocapnia is a condition of reduced carbon dioxide in the blood, which leads to death.
The project has started to be accompanied by negative feedback due to the method used. Some people have considered the car as a "glamorous gas chamber".
The director of the non-profit organization Exit International, Dr. Philip Nitschke, who created the suicide machine, hopes the euthanasia device will be available for use in Switzerland next year, the BCC reports.
Sarco, the name that comes from the sarcophagus abbreviation, allows the user to choose his / her favorite location for a peaceful death. The capsule can be detached from the machine and then turned into a coffin.
Assisted suicide, also known as assisted death through medical teams, is legal in Switzerland. In 2020, about 1,300 people used the services of euthanasia organizations.
