Confirmed by Guinness World Records as the world's largest painting, "The Journey of Humanity", the artwork on canvas, sold for $ 62 million.
The work of British artist Sacha Jafri appeared at an auction in Dubai on Monday. The "Journey of Mankind" is divided into 70 frames which together are 1,595.76 square meters.
Andre Abdoune, a French national living in Dubai, bought all 70 segments, organizers said on Tuesday. The amount was double what was intended and all the money went to charity to help the children.
"I come from a poor family and I know what it's like to have nothing to eat, but at least I had my parents' love, education and support," said Abdoune, who runs a cryptocurrency business. for Agence France-Presse. "The painting was very powerful when I saw it, and, for me, it would have been a mistake to split the pieces."
Abdoune highlighted the coronavirus pandemic, focusing on harming children. "We have to react, so if I can put my part in the puzzle, I'm very happy," he added.
The contemporary artist, meanwhile, hopes his work will spark a humanitarian movement. Jafri's painting also included works by children from 140 countries.
