When will international travel resume? Here is what is known so far

The number of people who will start traveling abroad will start this spring and will increase further by mid-year, travel industry experts predict, as vaccines and safety measures against Covid are widely distributed and cases of coronavirus in the world will begin to decline.

"I'm really confident that in early May, we'll all be in a much better world," said Paul Charles, founder and CEO of London - based travel consulting agency The PC Agency. .

"When you do not have a coordinated global approach, it is very difficult for the industry to move forward, especially when the rules of the game change substantially every day," said Luis Felipe de Oliveira, director general of the International Airports Council (ACI). a global trade organization representing the world airports.

Travel agencies and organizations predict that in summer, air traffic will reach 50% to 60% of previous levels. Some of the passenger barriers that the industry will have to overcome with the increase in travel are related to the elimination of quarantine and its vaccination and certification.

International travel will not happen overnight. As we wait for declines in coronavirus cases and more global coordination for safer, less confusing cross-border travel, destinations and corporations are increasingly offering their intermediate solutions.

De Oliveira sees rapid antigen testing as a potential aid in the recovery of the industry. Although considered less accurate, antigen tests are also much faster and less costly.
