Five years ago, Dr. James Hamblin stopped taking a shower.

He says that most "skin care" products actually damage it and he wants to see better what it means to be really clean.

We know how important good hygiene is. It protects us from infections and viral diseases, but what if using soap, body scrub etc, we are harming our health?

Dr. James Hamblin, journalist and public health professor, in his book "Clean (99 16.99, Bodley Head", reveals how our skin is affected by the products we apply.

According to him, excessive use of soap and cosmetic products, sold to us with the promise of care and maintenance for our skin, can cause some of the diseases or problems that we are trying to treat with those products.

Historically, people have seen the need to bathe as reserved for the rich or as something sinful, but with the evolution of society, it has become a daily need, which if neglected, can be “a major social mistake. ".

According to James, it is time for an evolution and a whole new perspective on what we call cleansing and purity. A perspective that begins with a personal reflection of our relationship with the body.

Currently, Hamblin is a professor at Yale and in an interview with the BBC he says that "he wanted to try not to bathe to see the effect it would have".

Thus, he noticed that the body is taught not to smell bad, the skin is no longer oily and the same thing happens with the hair.

"Many people use shampoo for oily hair and then apply various hair products that contain synthetic fat. "If they did not do this anymore, they would see good results in their hair," he said.

He emphasizes that something like this takes time and does not happen overnight.

Hamblin also mentions the importance of microbes, saying that microbes in the skin are just as important as those we have in the gut.

James rarely bathes and uses nothing but water.

He says that his wife likes the scent she has because "it is a human scent".
