When it comes to salaries in Albania, we are all aware of how low it is to be simple and only in relation to those in the region, without having to compare apothecaries with other, more developed countries of Europe or beyond.
In the cafes, offices and various discussions, we constantly express our dissatisfaction with the low Albanian wages. However, to speak with the language of figures, in this article we will be familiar with the latest study results from Eurostat.
According to data referring to January 2019, the minimum wage in Albania is 211 euros, while not far from Macedonia, the salary in question amounts to 240 euros.
But although in absolute terms, the minimum wage in Albania is as much as 89% of that in Macedonia, an individual with a minimum wage in Albania can buy only 75% of the volumes of goods and services purchased in the neighboring state. So, Albania has not only the lowest wage in the region and the EU in absolute value, but also the highest difference under Purchasing Power Standards, a European Union unit that enables comparison between states, eliminating differences in levels of price between states and measuring how many units of goods and services you can buy for the same amount of money.
Those who are paid with minimum wage in our country buy less volume of goods and services than even the least paid in the region. This means that money has much less value in Albania, due to higher product prices in relation to income.
