It's official: the popular series "Peaky Blinders" is returning to tell the story of a new generation of the Shelby family from Birmingham, as confirmed by the series' creator, Steven Knight.
The question that naturally arises is: Will Cillian Murphy return to the legendary role of Tommy Shelby? The answer seems to be yes. The award-winning actor will not be an active part of the cast in the new seasons, but will participate in the project as an executive producer. Furthermore, he is expected to reprise his role as Tommy in the film that Netflix is ??developing in parallel.
The events of the new season are set in 1953, in a Birmingham devastated by World War II but struggling to rebuild. The official synopsis for the season describes the atmosphere thus:
"Birmingham, after the bombings of World War II, is building a better future out of cement and steel. The race to rebuild the city becomes brutal and takes on mythic proportions. This is a city facing unprecedented opportunities and dangers, with the Shelby family at the center of its cursed heart."
Creator Steven Knight added:
"I'm thrilled to announce this new chapter in the 'Peaky Blinders' saga. A new generation has taken the reins and it's going to be an incredible ride."
