Ermal Mamaqi and Elvana Gjata were present at the Marché du Film, at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, with the aim of promoting the movie Two Twig Honey and finding partners to collaborate with a future cinematographic project. Their passage on the red carpet was commented by some media as "fraud". According to them, Mamaqi and Elvana "tried to fool the public".
With regard to such news, Ermali reacted to today's "Xing with Ermalin" (Saturday, May 25th).
"A few days ago I was at the Cannes Film Festival to see what was happening there. Since I had a movie in my hands, it was the best chance to get people in this area to advertise and sell the movie for it to go there; is an international market where people sell and buy movies. But when I came back I saw that here in my beloved Albania, the place where I work, live, invest, produce, conceive, some journalists had crossed me with the claim that I was deceiving humanity. They wrote: 'Ermali and Elvana are slandering'.
Dear journalists, kind and gracious, I have never claimed that I was a competitor at the Cannes Film Festival because if I were to have it all agreed. I was just about to sell the movie and also took a ticket to watch one of the films that were competing. Feel the chill chill.
In a post I wrote: Hope to receive any prize at the Cannes Film Festival. First, what's the worse we hope to receive any prize at the Cannes Film Festival? The best way to predict the future is to recreate it. We just gave a signal to the universe that one day we get a prize at the Cannes Film Festival. And the second, as I have said this, the bright journalist minds have to understand that this was a joke, that I'm a comedian and comedians are joking, so they are called comedians. And yes, that self-crash. "
