Through a formal statement , FIFA announced that it would initiate disciplinary proceedings against Granit Xhakaj, Xherdan Shaqiri, Swiss Stephan Lichtsteiner, who made the eagle with hands, and the Serbian Football Federation, kicked off by the political and offensive messages of Serbian fans.
In such situations, footballers are punished by being excluded from the upcoming matches, however, things seem to have gone well. Jaka and Shaqiri were sentenced to a symbolic fine of 10,000 Swiss francs, while the Swiss with only 5,000. Their celebration by handing the eagle was not considered a political provocation by FIFA, just an unsportsmanlike gesture.
On the other hand, the Serbian Football Federation was fined 54 thousand Swiss francs with the argument that Serbian fans displayed discriminating posters and threw objects on the field.
