At the end of the day, dinner is one of those meals that often brings the family together. Perhaps, for many it may not matter much, because you care about your body weight, you don't want to gain weight or feel bloated when you consume it late in the evening, there are some foods and drinks that have a positive effect on the digestive process.
Dietitian Elyse Wagner explains the main ones that you should not remove from the food regime in the evening, especially if you want to not feel bloated.
#1 Lean Protein
Lean proteins like salmon, eggs, beans and nuts are packed with nutrients and low-fat content that's perfect for aiding digestion. By consuming them carefully, you will stimulate stomach acid during digestion which will break down food, increase metabolism and leave you feeling full.
#2 Ginger
While ginger may not be your favorite when it comes to dinner foods, consuming it in its various forms can help with digestion. Ginger improves the gastrointestinal condition and increases the flow of saliva, which means that the more we eat, the better our food will be digested.
#3 Leafy greens
Spinach, cabbage or arugula have enough nutrients and fiber to help with digestion and affect your body's energy. In addition, they have specific sugars that improve healthy gut bacteria.
#4 Herbal teas
Drinking herbal teas like peppermint or chamomile after dinner can calm the digestive system and promote better digestion because they help to quickly calm the digestive tract.
#5 Whole grains
Whole grains are rich in fiber, which feeds good gut bacteria and keeps the digestive tract as smooth and healthy as possible. These grains are wheat, buckwheat, barley, oats, quinoa, etc.
