It is not uncommon for ex-partners to tend to have similar personality traits but also physical ones.
Researchers say that there are some passive factors that can influence the choice of the same personality type, for relationships or even just "dating". You may like to attend certain social events or work in the same professional field. For example, Kate Hudson loves music and she married rock singer Chris Robinson in 2000. Years later, she got engaged to another rocker, Matt Bellamy.
There are other active factors as well. For example, we choose the same type of partner because it is easier and less stressful for us. When operating within old, familiar patterns, you do not need to think long and hard about what you are doing. Your body is ready to do familiar things without having to think about them. This leaves your mind free to wander and get away from stress.
So it is less stressful for us when we continue to meet the type of person we know well.
The researchers made a curious finding. They collected data from 332 participants over a long period of time and also asked participants to identify with statements such as: "I am usually modest and reserved", "I am interested in many different types of things". It turned out that their responses showed that the participants ’current partners resembled in many respects their former partners.
Also, we sometimes resemble our partners, but that does not mean we can not change patterns. Moreover, we should not think of finding a new partner as a "similar ex", but simply as a "better partner version for us". After all, we all resemble each other a little bit in certain respects, especially if we make comparisons. The important thing is not to go back to toxic and harmful relationships.
The study noted that extroverts were more open to dating different personality types.
