From July 27th to November 3rd, a 3.5-meter-long doll will travel 8,000 kilometers from Gazientep, near the Turkish-Syrian border to Manchester, for a major initiative.
The project is called The Walk and the big doll is a 9-year-old Syrian baby girl, Amal. The doll will "walk" from Turkey to the UK through villages, towns and cities. The idea of ??the initiative is that the girl desperately seeks her mother. Along the way she will encounter art installations, performances and other cultural events.
The project involves around 250 partner organizations and artists to join in Turkey, Greece, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
"The walk is to celebrate the potential of refugees, children, adults. It is not a march of misery, it is a march of pride, and hopefully this corridor of friendship will last much longer than the 12-week journey. It will become a network of collaborations in the future, "Amir Chan Nizar Zuabi, artistic director of Good Chance, told the Guardian.
