Why You Should Never Take These Foods to the Beach

Why You Should Never Take These Foods to the Beach

Summer is just around the corner, and maybe for some the beach has already started despite the vagaries of the weather these days. Summer means beach, sand, holidays and why not a barbecue by the sea with your best friends, your partner or the people with whom you want to spend beautiful and sunny days.

But high temperatures are often a threat to the food safety of the things you choose to cook yourself on the beach. "Leaving food in the refrigerator for a long time can cause bacteria such as E.coli or salmonella that, if they get into the food, cause vomiting and diarrhea," says doctor John Torres.

Here are five foods you shouldn't take with you to the beach, as you could end up in the hospital with some serum. We believe, that's the last thing you want, especially when you're on vacation, right?

- Foods that need to be kept in the refrigerator

If you're packing sandwiches made with sausage or chicken or turkey bacon, know that these should be kept in the refrigerator, or at least in hand coolers that are taken to the beach. Never put them in your beach bag because the risk of contamination is great.

-Fresh salads

Fruits and vegetables contaminated with salmonella, E. coli, listeria and other bacteria are responsible for a large proportion of the world's illnesses. Washing salad can reduce the chances of poisoning, but it does not completely eliminate dangerous bacteria, which like to multiply in warm environments, such as airtight containers or bags that sit in the sun for a long time, etc.

-Anything mayonnaise based

Mayonnaise should be stored in the refrigerator and any salad or dish containing mayonnaise because the chances of the egg as one of its main ingredients being contaminated in the sun are very high.

- Uncooked meat

Grilling is one of the favorite things to do at the beach for many people. But any amount of beef or chicken that sits too long at room temperature before cooking has a high risk of getting bacteria.

- Pre-cut fruits

Melon, peaches or watermelon are among the favorite fruits of the season, but at the same time they are known for containing pathogens from food, such as salmonella. Cutting the fruit can transfer the bacteria to the surface of the fruit where they can grow and multiply. Moreover, cut like this, they attract many insects due to their sweetness and become targets for possible poisoning.
