Surely you have ever noticed hairs in the chest area? Long, black hair. If so, know that you are not alone. Having one or more hairs on the nipples is normal. Some women have none at all, some have little, and still others more than average.
At one point or another you have asked yourself, where do these hairs come from and why exactly there?
To be understood, nipple hairs come from the entire area surrounding the nipple, i.e. mainly from the aureola. In the halo there are small glands called 'Montgomery glands' that secrete a fatty material, which is supposed to lubricate and keep the skin hydrated around the nipple, so you have healthy nipples to breastfeed. These glands sometimes produce hair and that is OK.
Nipple hairs are normal, but sometimes be careful. If a significant amount of hair grows, this may be an indication of a hormonal imbalance. If this is the problem, the hairs would not be confined to the halo area. If the level of testosterone, (male hormone), increases, we may witness hair in unusual places, such as the chest or nipples.
Sudden hair growth is a reason to go consult a doctor, especially if the hairs come out in 'masculine' places, like the mustache or beard. This could be a sign of hirsutism, or a sign of PCOS.
If they bother you, the most effective way to remove them is by using a clean tweezers.
