Poland/ The decision that students no longer have homework confuses teachers

The Polish government has introduced some restrictions regarding homework for students, thus trying to modernize the education system. Thus, teachers will not be able to give homework to students in the first grades of education. As for students from fourth to eighth grade, the assignments will be optional.

The students think this is a good decision. One girl said that homework doesn't make any sense, since students copy it from someone who did it anyway. However, the decision confused the teachers, who say that this step towards the modernization of education has come too soon.

"Teachers think it happened too quickly, too hastily. There was not much discussion with us (the teachers) and there was not much consultation. It had to be done, but before that, the teachers should have been asked as well", said the head of the Teachers' Union in Poland, Slawomir Broniarz.

As for the Polish education system, it has undergone several different reforms and practically, almost every government has made its own changes, affecting students, parents and teachers. The sudden changes have often brought confusion and uncertainty to the education system in Poland, especially on the part of teachers.
