An Italian killer believed to belong to one of the country's most powerful mafia organizations has been found working as a pizza chef and arrested after 16 years on the run.
Edgardo Greco, 63, is suspected of belonging to the notorious 'Ndrangheta, a powerful mafia organization in Calabria.
Interpol said he was arrested on Thursday in the French city of Saint-Etienne, where he had been running a pizza restaurant. Described as a "dangerous fugitive", Greco was wanted in Italy to serve a life sentence for the murders of Stefano and Giuseppe Bartolomeo, Interpol said in a statement.
The Bartolomeo brothers were beaten to death with iron bars in a fish warehouse in January 1991. Their bodies were never found and are believed to have been dissolved in acid.
The 'Ndrangheta was considered Italy's largest and most powerful mafia group, operating worldwide and with strong links to the cocaine trade coming to Europe from South America.
