If you look around and observe friends and family – of course, including yourself – some people seem happier than others. Practically, some of them see the glass half full and others, half empty. According to psychologist and professor Sonja Lyubomirsky, some people are simply happier than others. "They don't try too hard. They are simply happier", she says.
Lyubomirsky, a professor of psychology at the University of California, has studied the issue of happiness for about 35 years and has published a book with her studies and conclusions: "The How of Happiness: A New Approach to Getting the Life You Want ".
"Happiness has two elements: The experience of positive emotions, which are joy, enthusiasm, calmness, curiosity, liking, pride, and the second element is the thought and feeling that life is beautiful and that you are satisfied with your life". says Lyubomirsky. She also notes 5 actions you can take if you want to be a happier person:
1. Get involved
Get involved in what you're doing. "When you are totally involved in what you are doing and you don't notice the passing of time, you are in a phase related to joy. Try to increase the number of these moments and make it possible to "wander" in such experiences", says the expert. No, it's not about climbing Everest, but about following your passions, playing with your kids, or having fun with your soulmate/friends.
2. Small acts of courtesy
Do nice things for others during your day. "Being kind to others can also increase your happiness. It makes you feel like a generous and capable person, and even makes you more grateful for yourself and the situation you're in."
We tend to smile when we see others happy, so imagine being the source of that happiness.
3. Take care of your connections
When it comes to happiness levels, you should know that relationships with others have a bigger impact than anything else. "Spending quality time with your partner, children, reconnecting with old friends, or meeting cousins ??you care about, makes you feel more happiness," says Lyubomirsky.
Therefore, starting from Monday, try to strengthen relationships with others.
4. Express gratitude
Counting the blessings you have in life definitely brings more happiness and attracts positive things into your life. Make a list of the things you feel grateful for and often express this more positive approach to your life.
5. Celebrate the good news
Being proud and sharing your achievements with others has a very beautiful and close connection with happiness. That way, you'll feel like a capable person and 'thank' yourself for going this far. Rent loved ones for an achievement of yours, like a raise, or some other reward, and see how good you feel. Finally, you'll have one more reason to celebrate.
