A large number of people have traveled to Turkey, this time not only to relax, but to shop through shops and markets for food, clothing and other items.
The first thing they do after arriving in Turkey is to exchange money for lira and head to shops and markets, mainly in the city of Edirne. Euronews reports that many buses with Bulgarian, Greek and other citizens have headed to Turkey for shopping.
Turkey is facing an economic crisis with official inflation figures above 21% affecting food, fuel and household prices.
The lira, the Turkish currency, experienced its most volatile month in December, falling almost daily and reaching an all-time low of 20.04 against the euro on December 20, when the currency lost more than 60% of its value against the European currency.
It is from this decline that tourists have benefited. For now, the lira has recovered, but the currency has lost 40% of its value this year.
Overall, high inflation could be reduced by raising interest rates, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has argued otherwise. He insists on lowering interest rates, cheap loans, high exports and has urged businesses to cut prices until the cheap stabilizes.
