If you thought the summer would be drama-free in the music industry, you're wrong. Just yesterday, Nicki Minaj set the internet on fire by unleashing a series of scathing tweets at "Snooze" singer SZA, attacking everything from her music to her morals.
It all started when Nicki Minaj accused SZA's manager and the president of her label, Top Dawg Entertainment, of "bullying" her.
Although SZA didn't respond directly, a post on X that read "don't mess with internet bait, you little goose" was taken as an attack on Nicki and that was enough for the latter to explode.
Nicki, as usual, didn't mince her words. She commented to SZA:
"Go draw the freckles on your face again, beautiful," and further added that it looks like it was "stung by a bee."
And it doesn't end there. Nicki also attacked SZA's music career, writing:
"If every song you've ever released disappeared today, the music industry wouldn't miss you at all. I've been to places where people have never even heard of you."
She also targeted the album “SOS,” one of the most successful of the last decade, which made SZA the first black artist to spend the longest time in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, breaking Michael Jackson’s record with “Thriller.” But for Nicki, SZA’s success is not “organic.”
"I'm releasing a new album as an extended version of the one that came out 2 years ago just to give the records a boost. What lack of morality and integrity is this?"
SZA later responded by saying that she had no intention of including Nicki in her posts and that she was not directed at her. But that didn't stop her clashing with Nicki's ardent fans, the "Barbz," who are known for their fierce online play.
SZA addressed the situation with a new statement:
"I get bullied every day by millions of people online and then I get to go out on stage to a stage full of people who give me true love. My parents are fine and I'm in the most successful moment of my life."
Currently, SZA is on an international tour with Kendrick Lamar and is enjoying the biggest success of her career to date.
