Pamela Anderson is exploring the complexities that accompany the life of an artist in her new film The Last Showgirl.
The drama's first trailer was released today, November 14, showing Anderson, 57, in a role that has already earned her a Gotham Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor.
In director Gia Coppola's film, Anderson plays Shelly, a seasoned Las Vegas showgirl who, after 30 years on the stage, sees her show suddenly close, leaving her future uncertain.
The description of the film presents "The Last Showgirl" as a "poignant film about endurance".
The cast also includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave Bautista, Billie Lourd, Kiernan Shipka and Brenda Song. This film includes an original song titled "Beautiful That Way", which is performed by Miley Cyrus.
News of Coppola's project, her first film since 2020's Mainstream, was announced in February 2024, when Deadline reported the cast list and that production had wrapped.
"I've always wanted to do a movie in Vegas," Coppola, 37, told Deadline in February. “I'm so proud of our cast and crew, especially Pamela. I look forward to sharing her brave and soulful performance.”
Coppola recently said that Anderson "is the Marilyn [Monroe] of our time," and she realized this after watching the star's 2023 documentary, Pamela, a Love Story.
She also praised Anderson as "very intelligent" and an "interesting being" while noting her "artistic background, and I could see that she was a woman who was really looking to express herself as an actress creatively."
The Last Showgirl will be shown nationwide on January 10, 2025.
