The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the pandemic has accelerated further and there are now more than 300,000 confirmed cases.
It took 67 days from the first reporting with Covid-19 to reach 100,000 infected, 11 days for 100,000 other infected and only 4 days for the third 100,000.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said it is still possible to change the trajectory.
He called on states to adopt rigorous contact testing and tracking strategies. "What matters most when you win a football match is not only defense, but attack as well," he said.
Ghebreyesus said people should stay home and other physical distancing measures should be taken to slow the spread. "To win, we need to attack the virus with aggressive and targeted tactics - to test every suspected case, isolate it and carefully monitor the process."
