Comments like: "Does she look sexy?!"; "I miss the Sam of 2014"; "His appearance disgusts me"; "Sam Smith, so fat, he really thinks he did something", etc., flooded all over Twitter and are actually disturbing because they relate closely to the image people create of themselves.
But what does "extra" pounds have to do with being sexy?
Throughout our lives, fashion, cinema, books, women and men around us have instilled in us the idea that being thin equals being sexy. But, being sexy is equal to: feeling good in your own skin, being confident in your abilities, flirting nicely, understanding the other person, having confidence in yourself... So, actually, the kilos " excessive" have not so much to do with being sexy, because the latter has to do with behavior, walk, dress, mind, spirit, gestures, knowledge, empathy, emotional intelligence and many other prisms. No one can define what sex is or isn't.
Personally, I think that, for example, intelligence is very sexy, self-confidence as well, or even a sense of humor. But in many other situations, I find the expression of feelings, a tone of voice and everything that has nothing to do with weight to be sex.
The body is constantly changing, what we can do is love it and not comment or point out something that does not belong to us. Sam and anyone else who may seem to us to have "gained weight" sees themselves and finds them (or not, depending on their self-concept) more attractive and sexy, so it's too much for them to hear a more words or comments.
It is important to note that being sexy, fashion, dancing, art, clothes are not exclusively created for people who meet the current "standards" of society. They are created for people. That's it. No epithets. Without prejudice.
Let's normalize talent, being yourself, being authentic, doing something different, with or without pounds. Weight is never the measure of being sexy!
