For years, students in Tokyo had to enforce some strict dress code regulations. But these rules, constantly criticized, will now be repealed.
According to the dress code of the public school system, all students had to dye their hair black, their underwear had to have a certain color and they were not allowed to wear certain hair styles.
Authorities in Tokyo announced that 5 rules will be removed from nearly 200 public schools in the Japanese capital, including the rule for hair and underwear color, the rule that prohibits cutting long and short hair at the back and side, a this model is very popular all over the world.

Other rules that are expected to be lifted include the practice of punishing students with a form of house arrest. The decision came after a survey conducted last year in 240 schools in the capital found that 216 had regulations that a growing number of people - including students themselves - say are outdated.
Some schools have required students to wear swimsuits in beige, light brown or other colors that do not appear under their uniforms, while only white, gray, blue or black underwear was allowed.

Many students have undertaken successful campaigns that have allowed girls to wear pants to school, while others have sought to allow the use of cosmetics and hair products.
