Zayn Malik opened up about his relationship with Gigi Hadid during his interview on "Call Her Daddy." He said that while he loves and respects his ex-partner, he doesn't think he was "ever in love with her," even during their time together.

The couple tied the knot in 2015, when they were both around the ages of 20 and 22. Their relationship had on and off breaks until 2021, when they finally split. In September 2020, they became parents to a daughter, Khai.

When moderator Alex Cooper asked him if he still stood by a previous statement that he had never been in love, Malik replied:
"Yes, because my understanding of love changes over time. At that moment I may have thought it was love, but over the years I've realized that maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was passion, maybe something else. I don't feel like it was love."
He added:
"And, to be clear, I want to say it publicly: I will always love Gn, Gigi, because she is the reason my child is in this world. I have the utmost respect for her. I will always love her, but I don't know if I've ever been in love with her."

Malik admitted that he understood how his previous comment could have been interpreted:
"Even then, I believe people interpreted it in different ways. But I have a lot of respect for this woman and I love her immensely. However, I don't think I was in love with her at the time. Otherwise, I would have been a better version of myself."
Earlier during the podcast, Malik said that he is currently single, but does not want his future relationships to be in the public spotlight.
"I'm not looking for a public relationship anymore, and, from experience, without wanting to offend anyone I've been in a public relationship with before, I've learned that it doesn't work for me. I'm a pretty private person. I don't seek people's approval or attention. A relationship should be between me and that person. And I think someone who doesn't want to make a public relationship would be a better fit for me."
