Angelina Jolie publicly showed the scars of her breast removal surgery in her latest interview with TIME France magazine. The Hollywood star revealed why she chose to speak out now about the results of her double mastectomy.
“I share these signs with a lot of women I love,” she told the magazine. “And it always excites me when I see other women sharing their signs.”
Note: Mastectomy - the medical term for the surgical removal of part or all of the breast tissue.
Among other things, Jolie added:
“I came out to join them, knowing that TIME France would share information on breast health, prevention, and breast cancer awareness.”

She called for BRCA testing to be available to every woman. A BRCA test is a genetic test that checks for inherited mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which stand for the breast cancer gene.
"Every woman should always be able to decide on her own health journey and have the information she needs to make the right decisions."
According to her, genetic tests should be accessible and affordable for women who are at risk of facing this disease, due to the health history of their family members.

The actress's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died at the age of 56 from the disease. In Angelina Jolie's biography, published in 2013, she decided to share some of her experience with breast cancer.
This interview comes as audiences are still anticipating her upcoming film, "Couture." In this "very personal story," she portrays Maxine Walker, an American filmmaker diagnosed with breast cancer.
