Kristen Bell has been embroiled in a wave of criticism on social media after an anniversary post that many called "insensitive/tactless."
The actress, 45, shared a sweet photo on Instagram with her husband, actor Dax Shepard, to mark 12 years of marriage, but it was the caption that sparked controversy.
"Happy 12th anniversary to the man who once told me, 'I would never kill you. Many men have killed their wives at some point. Even though I have many reasons to, I would never do it,'" she wrote in the caption.
The comments immediately erupted.
"Posting this during Domestic Violence Awareness Month? This is unbelievable," one follower wrote.
"Thousands of women have been killed by the men they loved, there's nothing to laugh about here," added another.
Others called the post "scary," "sick," and "shocking," emphasizing that domestic violence is not something to be mentioned as a joke.
"I find it hard to understand how a woman can stay with a man who makes such jokes," someone wrote.
However, there were also those who "defended" the actress, saying that people "are taking it too seriously" and that the couple is known for their quirky humor.
Kristen and Dax married in October 2013 and have two daughters, Lincoln and Delta. Neither the actress nor her representatives have yet to respond to the controversy.
