Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, has died at the age of 70. The news was first reported by the radio station "Starcom Network News" in Barbados, the singer's birthplace, and later confirmed by TMZ and Page Six.
Family sources told Starcom that relatives gathered in California to be by his side in his final days. In photos released by Page Six, the singer's younger brother, Rajad Fenty, is seen arriving at the medical center where his father was being treated in Los Angeles. It is believed that Rihanna was also in the car with him at the time.
Ronald Fenty passed away early Saturday morning, but the official cause of death has not yet been released. Rihanna, who is currently expecting her third child with A$AP Rocky, has not yet made a public statement about her father's passing.
The singer's complicated relationship with her father
Rihanna's relationship with her father was complicated over the years. Ronald had a substance abuse problem and their relationship was strained due to conflicts. Her parents separated when she was just 14 years old.
However, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2012, she indicated that their relationship had improved.
“He taught me everything, and no matter how hard it was for my mom, it doesn't compare to how wonderful he was as a father,” she said.
In 2019, Rihanna sued her father, accusing him of using her name to promote his talent development company, Fenty Entertainment, falsely claiming that the business was related to the singer's brand.
