Interesting people have a magnetism that draws others to them. Some call this self-confidence, others call it charisma or charm. One thing is for sure: Being an interesting person is much better than just being attractive.
People are interesting for the same reason that objects and activities are interesting. They surprise you in new and unexpected ways. Interesting people are great at telling stories and having great conversations.
There is no single way to be interesting, but there are some key ways that can help you achieve this. Some of them are:
1. Be curious about other people
One sure way to remain a boring person is to have no curiosity. Curiosity about people prompts you to ask better questions. It also treats each person as if they had something valuable to add to the conversation. Don't rely on small talk and ask questions that draw people out of answering predictably.
Questions like:
- What are you most excited about right now in your life?
- Do you have a personal project you are working on?
- What was your dream job when you were a child?
When you are a good listener and show interest in others, you not only learn more about life, but you also become more interesting to them. Asking the best questions, along with active listening, helps even the most introverted to wow a group of people.
2. Broaden your perspective
The vast majority of people spend their lives reacting to the things that happen around them. If they learn new skills, it is because work or school requires it. They come home, watch the same shows, play the same video games, talk to the same people…you get the idea…
Start a new activity in your life: Actions that require you to get out of the house and talk to other people.
Extra tip: When you learn new things, share them with others where you see fit. When you share things, whether it's gifts or information, you're also seen as more attractive.
The important thing is to find something that motivates you. Attractive people have things they are passionate about. Passion leads their curiosity to new and exciting discoveries.
3. Discover a path to self-improvement
While animals eat, sleep, reproduce, and perform their vital needs, self-improvement is unique to human beings. Self-improvement appears in:
- Periodic assessment of your goals;
- Learning new things and using them effectively;
- Using logic to understand why you made mistakes and how to improve.
Reading and listening to good podcasts is a great way to start your self-improvement journey. Reading books can help you learn from the mistakes of others.
4. Push yourself out of your comfort zone
You will not be interesting to anyone simply by repeating the thoughts and ideas of others. Take the risk of saying how you feel. Adapt to the situation, but be true to yourself.
5. Accept yourself
Most people have strange approaches to things. Accept this fact knowing that you are not alone. Self-acceptance shows that you have a sense of humor.
6. Get away from wrong company
Sometimes you can't be your full self simply because you're limited by the people you spend most of your time with. There are no new or better stories because your social group doesn't do anything new. And more often than you think, that group of friends doesn't want to see you do better than them.
Take care of your energy when you are with your friends. If you constantly feel stressed and afraid to share your true thoughts, it may be time to find a new social group.
