If you think that thinking is a process that ideally happens in all people, you are actually wrong! Neuroscientist Emily McDonald has shared a video on TikTok that has captured the attention of virtually thousands of people about ways that stimulate the birth of new brain cells that lead to better thinking skills.
@emonthebrain 3 ways to boost your thinking abilities ?? Pls don't underestimate the power of the light ? Love & Gratitude to you !! Em ? #neuroscience #mentalhealth #wellness #selfcare ? original sound - emily | neuroscientist ?
If you're curious about what these methods are, here's what they're all about:
#1 Do regular exercise

"Physical activity in nature or the gym has been shown to increase levels of proteins that can help in the birth of new neurons," says McDonald. Exercise, even at a low intensity, affects the heart rate and strengthens the memory.
#2 Meditation

Some studies show that meditation can stimulate structural changes in the hippocampus, a region where neurogenesis (the birth of new cells) occurs in adults. Of course, meditation as a process also applies to the improvement of the mental and physical state, but at the same time it also affects the relaxation of brain cells that affect the ability to think.
#3 Consume foods rich in polyphenols

Polyphenols found in dark chocolate, berries, pears, grapes and red wine have anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory powers that protect the brain from free radical damage and therefore prevent neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
#4 Get out in the sun

Protein levels in the brain seem to be linked to the seasons, so the lower they are, typically from January to May, the more moody we feel.
“Sunlight can increase our levels of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). Therefore, you should be exposed to the sun as much as possible," adds McDonald.
Just don't forget your sunscreen!
