Often times, foods that we think are harmless or healthy can actually give us more fatigue than energy. Daily food choices directly affect our energy levels and overall sense of well-being. Here are five foods that you probably eat every day, but that actually sap your energy:
1. White bread
Although it may seem like a quick and convenient choice, white bread is high in processed carbohydrates that lead to an immediate spike in blood sugar followed by a rapid drop. This slump leaves you tired and without energy during the day.
2. Hidden sugar in sweet drinks
Processed fruit juices, fizzy drinks and sweetened tea contain large amounts of added sugar. Their consumption causes a temporary increase in energy, but it quickly falls, leaving a feeling of fatigue and sluggishness.
3. Processed cereals
Many cereals marketed as "healthy" contain high amounts of sugar and are low in fiber. They raise blood sugar levels, but do not provide a feeling of satiety or sustained energy, causing fatigue after a short time.
4. Yogurt with fruit
Although yogurt itself is a good source of protein and probiotics, ready-made versions with processed fruit often contain large amounts of added sugar. This affects energy during the day, causing rapid increases and decreases in energy.
5. Fried potatoes and salty snacks
Chips and other salty snacks that you can eat for a quick dinner contain processed fats and carbohydrates that slow down digestion and create a feeling of fatigue after consumption. They offer little nutritional value and have a rapid negative effect on energy levels.
