
Let's be clear from the start: There is nothing wrong with crying! In fact, it is a natural and normal physiological response to stressful situations. "When you perceive a threat or experience high stress, your body reacts with tears as a way to release tension," explains clinical psychologist Molly Burretts.
But how do you stop yourself from crying all the time, especially when you are upset or irritated? Here are four simple tactics.
-Do breathing exercises
Deep breathing exercises such as inhaling for four seconds, holding your breath, or exhaling are tactics that relax your nervous system, thereby reducing stress and suppressing the urge to cry.
- Bring your senses to mind
Think of five things you can see, four things you can feel, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, one thing you can taste. Only in this way can you remove yourself from anger and worry and feel calmer.

Studies show that positive affirmations can regulate some of the physiological responses that are heightened when you're stressed. So if you focus on a good job you are doing while staying calm, not only can you increase your confidence, but you will have less space to think about insecurities or fears.

No matter how well you practice the above tips, you may still find yourself breaking down in tears during a tense conversation. The only thing you can do is just take a few minutes off and take some time for yourself.
