Facial exercises, also known as facial yoga, are the latest wellness trend making the rounds on social media. The exercises involve several repetitive movements and massages that target different facial muscles. These exercises can easily be done from your home or work (especially if you are alone in the office) and aim to tone the face, reduce the signs of aging, prevent wrinkles and improve the overall appearance of the face.
What do facial exercises do?
"First, a refresher on facial anatomy: The face is made up of layers of skin, fat and muscle that sit on top of our skull," says doctor Murad Alam.
"The purpose of facial exercises is to help grow the muscles beneath the layers of fat so that, as you exercise them, they open up in size and melt away over time," Alam said.
What are the best exercises for the face?
Dermatologists say there isn't enough evidence to prove that facial exercises can transform your jawline, slim your face or minimize wrinkles, so it's hard to say what the best ways are.
