Cyprus/ Record temperatures are recorded
The heat wave has swept through Cyprus. On the Greek island, just this week temperatures exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, causing the death of an 84-year-old woman. Three other elderly patients are in serious condition.
The extreme heat has also fueled wildfires and strong winds, which are helping to fuel the flames, making the work of authorities more difficult. A mountainous area in the southwest of the island has been affected by fires, and more than 3.2 square kilometers of forest have burned.
Belgium/ Numerous protests in Brussels
The streets of Brussels have been filled with more than 4,000 people, who have protested against the extreme right and racism. 20 different social movements and organizations gathered with a single goal: To stand in solidarity with everyone, regardless of people's nationality and social status. "A society that does not exclude, a society that is not racist or sexist", was one of the principles of the protest.
The protest comes after the European Parliament elections, where the extreme right won significantly. The most dramatic result occurred in France, where Marine Le Pen's Nationalist Party was elected first, prompting Macron to dissolve the cabinet and send the country into early elections.
Gaza/ Israel announces that it will hold pauses for food supplies
Israel's army has announced that there will be daily pauses in military operations so that people in Gaza can be supplied with food and medical aid after numerous warnings from international organizations that the humanitarian crisis continues to be alarming.
However, it said fighting would continue in Rafah, where Israel says it is fighting the last Hamas fighters. Military activities will be suspended from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the day, at least temporarily, until further notice.
Islamic Jihad says the Israeli hostages will be released when Israel withdraws troops
Hamas-allied Islamic Jihad, which carried out an attack in Israel on October 7, 2023, said the only way to free the hostages kidnapped near Tel Aviv is for Israel to withdraw troops from the Gaza Strip, give them end the war and reach an agreement to exchange hostages with Palestinian prisoners.
