You are probably aware of your personality, you may be an introvert or an extrovert. You may even know the love language you use as a couple. But have you ever thought about what kind of sleeper you are?
Pennsylvania State University researchers recently published a study that helps people determine the type of sleep they get and what it means for their overall health. The data, which was published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, consisted of 3,683 adults in the United States. Participants reported their chronic health conditions and measures of sleep, sleep duration, satisfaction, regularity, efficiency, measurements that were taken twice during the 10-year study period.
The researchers then categorized the participants into four different sleep types:
-Those who sleep well: Those who had respect schedules and enjoy full sleep
- Weekend sleepers: People who sleep irregularly during the week and choose to sleep well on weekends or days off
- Those who sleep, but also have insomnia: People who do not sleep well and quality
-Those who nap: People who nap from time to time during the day
"I think the four sleep categories are a good way to define the broad spectrum of what we see in clinical sleep disorders and the type of patients who are treated for these problems," said Kenneth Lee, medical director of the Disorders Center. of Sleep at the University of Chicago.
Experts say that insomnia brings many problems with the heart, nervousness, chances of stroke etc. But napping is also a problem because it is considered as a method to "break" that complete and quality sleep, as is the sleep that is done during the weekends in excess to make up for the lack during the weekdays.
So, as long as you don't enjoy a full sleep, find the culprits in yourself. It could be staying up late at night, family obligations, worry about work keeping you up etc.
