The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, was the target of an assassination attempt by "persons who may be part of the Serbian-Macedonian extreme", reported sources at the public Radio and Television of Kosovo.
"It was a Serbian operative combination, where media deceptions were interwoven with actions on the ground by possible assassins of the Serbian-Macedonian extreme, close to the Russian Federation, but under the control of Serbian institutions", the source said.
Meanwhile, Albin Kurti himself said that he did not feel threatened by a possible assassination plan, although while the meeting was taking place in Skopje, he saw numerous police forces. He added that he has learned that there have been threats from various individuals and structures that have "roots" in Belgrade.
"When I came from Skopje, I didn't feel threatened, but I saw that there were many police forces who took care of this meeting that we held, where the special guest was the representative of the German SPD, Lars Klingbeil", said Kurti, after tribute to former activists Mon Balaj and Arben Xheladini, who lost their lives in the 2007 protest in Pristina.
Sources from the security institutions in Kosovo told the Kosovo national television that: "Immediately after the meeting, they provided information that there was an attempt from Serbia to kill the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, who was staying in Skopje".
Meanwhile, North Macedonia has not admitted that there was an assassination attempt. The official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in North Macedonia, Toni Angellovski, declared that there was no attempt to assassinate Albin Kurti in Skopje.
However, the perimeter where the meeting was held and where Albin Kurti stayed has increased security measures, to guarantee the inviolability of the prime minister and the delegation.
