A mother on TikTok has sparked a barrage of criticism after sharing holiday gift ideas for her two children with followers in a video. Tiffany Chesson explained in the video that she only plans to put presents under the tree for one of her children.
"I'm only going to buy a present for one of my kids. Here's why," she said, holding her toddler, who she said will be just five months old when the holidays come around. "I'm not saying I have a favorite child," Chesson interjected, explaining that the youngest child isn't old enough to understand the idea of ??holiday gifts. "Does she need presents? No she doesn't."
"She's too young to understand and appreciate gifts," the UK-based mother continued, adding, "There's no point in buying her a holiday gift."
@tiffanychesson Idk if this is normal or not, im sure the comments will soon roll in if it turns out im the worlds worst mum for refusing to get my baby anything for her first christmas but shes too young to want anything and already has everything she needs so im not damaging my bank account by trying to keep up with the joneses and buy her loads of stuff she doesn't need ???? #babysfirstchristmas #firstchristmas #newbaby #newborn #christmas #christmasgifts #christmaspresents #deinfluencing #babyessentials #giftguide # controversial #mumsoftiktok #motherhood #parenting #mumof2 ? original sound - tiffany?
She added that she does not have the financial means for two gifts, as she lives on the payment of maternity leave. It's not like the youngest won't get any gifts at all, as Tiffany explained that she's open to welcoming gifts from friends or family for the holidays.
The video prompted many comments calling her the "worst mother in the world", although there were many other mothers who understood the situation.
"100% agree," one user wrote in the comments, suggesting that sentimental things are better for the holidays, especially when it's such a young child. "Respect him," someone else commented.
But some users pointed out that only giving gifts to one child can confuse the older child as to why Santa doesn't bring gifts to everyone, but has certain preferences.
Despite all the posturing, the new mom seems set on her idea of ??not buying gifts for both of them, but just one of her kids, and who are we to judge!
