Taylor Swift has given her first interview in 4 years, after being named "Person of the Year" by Time magazine. She showed, among other things, the famous fight between Kanye West and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.
A little reminder of their feud: Kanye released a song titled "Famous" (20216) and its lyrics read: "I made that motherfucker famous/ I think Taylor Swift might owe me (sex) ".
Of course, neither Tay nor her fans liked the fact that Kanye referred to her as a "bitch." After much backlash online, Kim Kardashian released an audio message (reportedly edited) where Tay was aware of the lyrics and even agreed with the lyrics.
In the recorded message from an alleged phone call between Taylor and Kanye, the singer asks the rapper if the lyrics will be "rude" and Kanye says no, then delivers the line: "I think Taylor Swift might have me debt (sexual relationship)". In the message, Taylor can be heard laughing and saying: "It's not rude."
At the time, right after the message was published, people flooded Taylor's social networks with hairy emojis, also referring to her as a "cheater". Today, Tay recalls it as a career-defining moment.
Kim, on the other hand, said that she "was obliged to protect Kanye". Further, in an interview in 2020, Kim stated: "No one denied that the word 'blood' was used without her permission...I never edited the message, I just posted a few moments on Snapchat to prove my argument," adding that Taylor forced her to defend her (former) husband.
In an interview with Time, Tay said: "It was an illegally recorded phone call that Kim edited and posted so that everyone could call me a 'liar.' My career was out of my hands. I thought that that moment of reaction would define me in a negative way for the rest of my life."
Taylor said the damage was done, and even had a huge psychological impact: “It took me to a place I've never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn't leave the rented house for a year. I was afraid of phone calls. I removed many people from my life because I didn't know who to trust".
Years later, Tay is more comfortable with the public and now, after the incredible success of the Eras tour, she is in a romantic relationship with Travis Kelce. "This is the proudest and happiest period. I feel creative, fulfilled and freer than ever before," she said.
