Some may have a phobia , some may worship them, some may use them for racing and buy them for 1.6 million euros, others may try to crash them with a car. The latter end up being arrested, at least in Tokyo.
Authorities have arrested Atsushi Ozawa, a 50-year-old taxi driver, because he "used the car to hit a common pigeon, which is not a game species," a Tokyo police spokesman told Agence France-Presse.
He drove the car towards a flock of pigeons. The suspect told the police that he drove the car into the birds because "roads are for people. It's up to the pigeons to avoid the cars,” according to local media.
A limited number of game pigeons can be legally hunted in Japan, but city pigeons can only be killed if they cause a nuisance - such as damage to crops and livestock - and only with the approval of local authorities.
A veterinarian performed an examination and determined the cause of death of the pigeon as traumatic shock. Given the 50-year-old's work as a professional driver, police described his actions as "very malicious" and issued a warrant for his arrest.
