Culinary art is quite old, although for a long time it has been a history of experiences lived and transmitted verbally without any evidence on paper. For this cake, it had to wait until 1653 for the actual written recipe for this dessert to be discovered.
It's called the Linzer cake and it's the foundation of Austrian tradition, not only for the taste, but for the many years of origin history that makes it the oldest recipe cake in the world.
What does Linzer cake look like?
In terms of image, it is similar to that of a simple cake, with a crostata base and jam filling. The latter can be filled with plums, apricots, currants or red fruits, while the sides of the cake are decorated with sliced ??almonds. Among its ingredients, the crostata also calls for toasted hazelnuts and various flavors to enhance the flavor, including vanilla, cinnamon and cloves.

Ingredients:
500 g of butter
250 g of powdered sugar
5 eggs
1 spoon of salt
120 g of chopped walnuts
450 g of roasted and chopped hazelnuts
330 g of flour
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
currant jam
Preparation:
Butter, sugar, eggs and almonds are combined in a bowl, along with the other ingredients of the recipe. The dough is left to rest in a cool place. Then two-thirds of the dough is placed in a cake tin and spread with currant jam. A mesh layer of dough is placed on the cake and then put in the oven at 180 degrees for 45 minutes.
